Samsung unveils all metal, ultra-slim Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3

Samsung announces the ultra-slim Galaxy A5 and A3 smartphoneswith full metal unibody design and Android 4.4.

Samsung has announced the company's slimmest phones till date - the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3. The smartphones are launched under Samsung's Galaxy A series and are meant for “young consumers seeking practicality and functionality”.

The Samsung Galaxy A5 has a 5-inch Super Amoled display with 720 x 1280 pixels resolution. The smartphone has an ultrathin 6.7 mm body. It has a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM and runs Android 4.4. The smartphone has a 13 MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. It has 16 GB internal memory expandable via microSD card slot. The Galaxy A5 is backed by a 2300 mAh battery.

The Galaxy A3 has a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display with 540 x 960 pixels resolution. The smartphone has a 6.9 mm body. It has a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor with 1 GB of RAM and runs Android 4.4. The smartphone has an 8MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera. It has 8GB internal memory expandable via microSD card slot. The smartphone is backed by a 1900 mAh battery.

Both the Galaxy A5 and A3 will be launched in November and will be available in a wide range of colors including Midnight Black, Pearl White, Platinum Silver, Champagne Gold, Light Blue, and Soft Pink. The official pricing of the smartphones has not been revealed yet.

Recentlly, Samsung also launched the metal framed Galaxy Alpha for Rs. 39,990 in India. It has a 4.7 inch 720p Super AMOLED display with 2GB RAM and runs Android KitKat. The smartphone has a thin 6.7 mm body, 32 GB internal memory and an octa-core SoC. The Galaxy Alpha has a 12 MP rear camera and a 2.1 MP front camera. It is backed by an 1860 Mah battery. Micro Phone Lens could turn your smartphone into a 150x microscope

The $42 lens could turn your smartphone or tablet camera into a power microscope.

Thomas Larson of Seattle has developed a Micro Phone Lens that attaches to your smartphone or tablet’s camera and offers a 150x magnification microscope.

The Micro Phone lens just sticks to your devices camera and can be pulled off when you’re done. Users just need to press on it to adjust the focus and use the default camera app. All you need is a light source and a microscope slide to view the things around in detail. The recommended camera resolution for the lens is 5MP and according to the site, the final product will be able to resolve features as tiny as 1.5-1.6 microns.

The project has raised money via the crowd funding site - Kickstarter. Larsen has already reached past his $50,000 goal through the site. The Micro Phone Lens is quite inexpensive as it comes for $42 only (which will get you the lens plus the full assortment of accessories). At this price the lens is a lot cheaper than dedicated microscopes with a comparable magnification which makes it ideal for home or school use.

Researchers at California Institute of Technology (Caltech) have developed a new 'light-bending silicon chip' that can turn your smartphone into a projector. The new chip eliminates the need of expensive and bulky lens used in traditional projectors. Ali Hajimiri and his team added that soon the technology would be incorporated into a smartphone to change it into a projector, with no need for a separate lens.

Google increases Android security with continuous malware scanning

Google's new Android security feature will check your smartphone constantly to make sure that installed applications are not infected with malware

Google has announced a change in its Android security system that will ensure that apps on your smartphone are safe from malicious software. "Verify Apps" by Google earlier used to scan apps for malicious code at the time of installation. "From now on, the program will expand and will continuously check the device even after installation to make sure that apps are “behaving in a safe manner," Google announced in a blog post.

The continuous app scanning will mean that if an app changes permissions on a later day, (like the ability to access your calendar, read your messages, etc.), Google’s Android Verify Apps program will keep a check on them and make sure they are not affected by malware. The new continuous checks use the same app-scanning technology that Google already uses for Android and also in its Chrome browser. Google adds that the regular “Verify apps” feature in Android has been used more than 4 billion times till now.

Verify Apps is a part of Google’s Android “bouncer” program released in February 2012. These 'Bouncer' scans check every app in Google Play Store against a list of known malware bugs and if an app is flagged as malicious, the app will send a warning to the user asking them not to install the app or Google may even block it. The Verify Apps feature is enabled for Android devices running v2.3 or higher.

The new security feature comes after a fake anti-virus app Virus Shield was discovered on the Google Play Store last week. The top rated app was available for $3.99 from the app store and claimed to protect your smartphone from harmful malware. After thousands of users downloaded the app, it was discovered that the app actually didn't do anything. Google has since then removed the app from the Google Play store.

Android 4.4.3 arriving soon, features leaked online

After various rumours of the upcoming Nexus devices, some fresh details of an upcoming Android update has been leaked on the web giving an idea what Google will be bringing to the mobile platform

A new Android update is expected to arrive soon as a change-log including some fixes has been leaked. The new update will be 4.4.3, so this is definitely not a major release, rather a slight bump from the current Android version. This also means that there won’t be any major changes in terms of looks of the UI.

The update was seen on a Nexus 5, however there is no confirmation regarding the release date. We are presuming that the update should arrive on or just before Google’s upcoming I/O event along with a pair of new Nexus devices.

Google faces $5 billion antitrust fine in India

Unlike the US and EU, Google cannot escape with a settlement package in India. If found guilty, the Internet giant may be slapped with a fine of $5 billion.

Even as Google wrapped up its antitrust case with the European Union, the search engine giant is still under an antitrust scrutiny in India and faces hefty fines up to $5 billion, if found guilty.

Google, however, has reiterated extending full co-operation to the antitrust body Competition Commission of India (CCI) in its investigation. Google has pointed out that the two-year long review conducted by the US antitrust watchdog was in its favour.

"We are extending full co-operation to the Competition Commission of India in their investigation. We're pleased that the conclusion of the Federal Trade Commission's two year review was that Google's services are good for users and good for competition," a Google spokesperson is quoted as saying.

The CCI has been investigating into the allegations that Google abused its dominant position in the Internet search engine space after a complaint by the Consumer Unity and Trust Society (CUTS) in 2012. A similar complaint was lodged by a wedding website later.

Unlike the anti-trust cases in the US and European Union, Indian laws don't permit settlement process. Moreover, complaint filed with CCI cannot be withdrawn.

It's notable the CCI has referred the issue to investigation arm -- Director General (DG) -- for a detailed investigation after finding prima facie evidence of violations. According to reports, the DG is expected to soon submit its report, which also includes comments from the third parties.

However, some time later I found an online NeoBux Strategy Guide that explained how to properly rent referrals and to begin to view NeoBux as a business not just a "paid to click" site. In the following NeoBux Strategy Guide, I will share with you the basic principals of renting NeoBux referrals, how to manage your NeoBux referrals, how to haveFREE Direct NeoBux Referrals added to your account automatically, and other NeoBux Tips & Tricks. Established users may find some of the information trivial, but new NeoBux members will find most of the data critical to their success. Every NeoBux member should read the guide as I have developed solutions for many of the common issues that 'NeoBuxers' have.

Part 1: Getting Started How do I earn money with NeoBux? There are three basic streams of income from NeoBux: Income from your personal actions on the site (viewing ads, doing mini-jobs, etc) Commissions paid to you from RRs (Rented Referrals) - explained later in Part 3. Commissions paid to you from DRs (Direct Referrals) - explained later in Part 4. How much money can I make? If you are willing to put a small amount of time each day, and you follow this guide, you should be able to make well over $1,000 per month spending less than 30 minutes each day. Part 2: The First Two Weeks (1 Goal to complete) In my opinion, the first two weeks are "make it or break it" with NeoBux users. Sadly, a lack of education will cause many to leave, but you are in the right place to avoid missing out on this great opportunity. During the first 15 days, you are not eligible for DRs, so do not focus on that at all. Your ONLY focus should be: Getting into the daily routine of viewing the ads assigned to you Earning your first $0.60 so you can begin the referral rental process It is critical that you view EVERY ad assigned to you during this period so that you can remove the limits from your account and be eligible for DRs as soon as possible. You need to be a member for 15 days and have 100 ad views to remove the limit. TIP: View ads by logging in and clicking the "View Advertisements" button at the top of your page. TIP: NeoBux has notifier toolbars for various internet browsers. They are not AdWare. They simply tell you your balance and when new ads are available. You are not going to earn much money during the first two weeks, that's a fact Jack. 15 days * approx. $0.04 / day = $0.60 ... Trivial as it may seem, $0.60 is your 1st goal. Goal #1 - Earn $0.60 TIP: If you are able to complete mini jobs, you can reach Goal #1 within a day or two! Part 3: Renting Your First Referrals (3 Goals to complete) Congratulations, you just graduated from Kindergarten! It's a big deal to make it through the first 15 days. A lot of people quit before this point... and guess what,this is where the fun begins! You're gonna do just fine! Once you have at least $0.60 in your NeoBux account (even if the 15 days are not up yet), you have enough to rent 3 referrals. As mentioned above, you can "jump start" your business by investing a few dollars of your own and begin renting Neobux referrals sooner. Before you do, read this: According to the TOS: "If you click at least 4 advertisements being a Standard / Pioneer member or you click at least 9 advertisements being a Golden member, you'll receive all clicks made from your referrals." In other words, if you do not click the 4 required advertisements, you won't earn money for your referrals for that day! TIP: The required ads are the "Standard Exposures" [Green] and "Fixed Advertisements" [Yellow/Gold] ... though you should always view every ad available anyway. Goal #2 - Rent 3 referrals by clicking the "Referrals" button on your account home page. Goal #3 - Turn on "AutoPay" within the Referrals->Rented menu. (From the original guide I found) "Referrals cost 0.30 a month to maintain. Instead of paying for the referral, they will pay themselves as long as autopay is on. You get one penny less from each referral, but they will be your referral as long as they are active. As a standard, you receive 0.005 per click from each RR." I prefer Autopay = Enabled because each day your referrals are active, they pay for themselves to be extended. This way, you do not need to worry about how much money to reserve for re-rental. Autopay is a must! TIP: There is a discount applied when using Autopay as well, yet another good reason to use it! Assuming your 3 rented referrals stay active, you will earn the following: 3 RR * 4 RR-clicks at $0.005 each = $0.06 / day Clicking ads assigned to you, still approx $0.04 / day For a total of $0.10 / day. Within one more week you can rent 3 more referrals, and be earning $0.16 / day The following week you will have enough to rent 5 more referrals (now you will have 11 RRs) for a total of $0.26 / day. The week after that, you will have enough to rent 10 more referrals (now you will have 21 RRs) for a total of $0.46 / day. At the end of the 4th week from when you rented your first RRs, you will have enough to rent 19 more referrals (now you will have 40 RRs) for a total of $0.84 / day. And so on... TIP: If a rented referral is inactive for 14 days, it will be replaced with a new one for free! (As you build your business, the 14 days can actually be lowered to 7 days) Continue viewing your assigned advertisements each day so that you can earn your rented referral income, and when you save up enough money to rent more referrals, get them! The more rented referrals you have, the more you will make. I recommend choosing a day of the week for rentals, and on that day rent as many as the funds in your NeoBux account can afford. Goal #4 - Continue until acquire 300 rented referrals Yes, It will take some time, but remember, you are building a business and passive income with just a small time commitment each day! It goes pretty fast since renting referrals increases your income, and increased income allows you to rent more referrals. Can you say "snowball effect?" TIP: 300 RRs * 4 RR-clicks at $0.005 per click = $6/day ... It will take about two weeks to save up $90 for Part 5 . Samsung patents augmented reality keyboard for Galaxy Glass or Gear Glass

One day, we might all be wearing some sort of smart glasses such as Google Glass, the Galaxy Glass, and/or something else. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to sit and listen to a bunch of people dictating their emails and text messages, so what’s the solution? You can whip out your phone, but that might be too tiring for some people. What if you could just type in the air with your fingers?

Well, Samsung might have a solution for that. A recent patent application shows an augmented reality keyboard that could be used in their version of Glass, which I presume would be called Galaxy Glass or Gear Glass. The patent is titled Input Method and Apparatus of Portable Device was submitted at the World Intellectual Property (WIPO), the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), and the U.S Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

As you can see in the picture above, different keys of the keyboard are assigned to different parts of the hand via the camera. The user will then use their thumb to press on the projected letters.

Seems interesting, but then again, something like this might never come to fruition. Patent offices have listings for all sorts of patents that never materialized.

Tiny Card, Epic Storage

I’m sure we’ll hear plenty of complaints – “$120 to $200? I might as well just buy a PS4 with 500GB and carry that around!” – but consider the actual size of SanDisk’s creation and just agree to be amazed. Compare it to storage products and capacities of yesteryear and complain not again: for it wasn’t long ago that Tech OG’s were retrieving storage – both input/output – uphill both ways in the snow.

One of my key questions: if SanDisk can make a 128GB memory card the size of my pinky thumbnail, why can’t phone manufacturer’s build 200GB+ into the actual hardware itself? Make the damn thing a little thicker and give us outrageous memory and worthwhile battery life! And hey, Google, if we’re paying $1,500 for Google Glass do you think you could superglue one of these things on the side somewhere?

The SanDisk Android App

We’ve also heard a fair share of negativity regarding the ease of access for memory cards on Android, specifically in the case of how Kit Kat handles them. I’ve yet to try it but I’ve heard great things about the SanDisk Memory Zone App for Android whose entire purpose is to facilitate an awesome experience. We’ll definitely be giving it a try – and so should you – before passing judgement, even if it’s on a much smaller and more affordable card to start.
